1 O God, we with our ears have heard,
Our fathers have us told,
The work that Thou didst in their days,
Those honored days of old.
2 Thou didst the heathen dispossess,
Then plant them by Thy hand;
Thou didst afflict the peoples all,
Then spread them through the land.
|
| 2. |
3 They by their sword gained not the land,
Nor did their arm them save,
But Thy right hand, Thine arm, Thy face,
To them Thy favor gave.
4 Thou art my King! For Jacob, God,
Salvation now command.
5 Through Thee we shall push back the foes
That now against us stand.
|
| 3. |
We through Thy name will trample those
Who adversaries be.
6 For in my bow I will not trust,
Nor will my sword save me.
7 But Thou has saved us from our foes,
Our haters put to shame.
8 In God we boasted all the day;
We'll ever thank Thy name.
